DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to Harlem, where churches and brownstones reveal layers of history. Sure, touring the Apollo is great, but perhaps you want to uncover a different Harlem, a little lost, a little faded, a little forgotten. What church is actually a 110-year-old synagogue? Who was Father Divine, and why did thousands of Harlemites believe him to be God? Where did the literary luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance go to unwind? What is a lobster palace, and what does it have to do with one of the 20th century’s biggest race riots? The answers to all these questions and more are hidden in Harlem…if you know where to look.

OUR TIPS:

Wear comfortable shoes, as the tour is about 1 mile of walking and we will be walking up some stairs. There will be one bathroom break along the way.
